Hindhead in Hampshire and Arbor Cultural Ltd undertook a tree condition survey on a Sports Ground on behalf of the local council.
The sports pitch was used for cricket in the summer and other sports in the winter months and consisted of the pitch and pavilion on one side and a small area of greenspace on the other.
On the site boundaries are a large number of mature trees backing onto private gardens, which places an obvious duty of care on the site owner to monitor and risk assess the health of the trees.
We used the Visual Tree Assessment (VTA) technique pioneered by Professor Claus Mattheck. The results were recorded on a tablet recording species, age, and condition of the trees, as well as our recommendations for mitigation measures to reduce any risk posed by the trees to the neighbouring properties to ‘as low as reasonably possible’ (ALARP).
In this instance there were very few recommendations for mitigation measures as the subjects all looked in good health, which we recorded photographically.
We provided the client with a CAVAT quick valuation for the value of their tree resource and recommended a reinspection of the Ash trees when they were in full leaf to assess them for Ash Dieback.
